The skeletons
Who had previously resided in my closet, Have now taken the form of angels.
The evenings take shape as they float above; Somewhere between the cold white ceiling And my own self.
Barely breathing, But already so dead, The walls of my essence are bare, And I've broken all of the mirrors in my heart.
My neighbors have a cat and a telephone, And even though I "see" someone, There's no one to talk to
But the kitchen sink.
Sink Design Ideas:
When thinking about your kitchen sink several things should be considered:
- the number of bowls (1, 2 or 3)
- the basic configuration (under-mount, self rimming, apron, corner, bar)
- the number of faucet holes
- cabinet size
- sink material (stainless steel, cast iron, fireclay, copper, composite)
- the accessories needed (faucets, garbage disposals, soap / lotion dispensers, vegetable sprays)
- sink support items (drains and flanges, air vents)
Each sink idea and design concept is described below, with reference to quality manufacturers and purchase options.
Kitchen Sink Design Concepts:
Number of Bowls: Should you have 1, 2 or 3 bowls? Single bowl sinks offer the greatest sink space. Double and triple bowl sinks allow the separation of functions. Smart divide sinks allow the sink to function as both a double bowl and a single bowl sink allowing additional flexibility.
Number of Faucet Holes: The faucet holes allow the mounting of sink accessories: the faucet, of course, as well as soap/lotion dispensers, vegetable sprays, hot water dispensers, air gaps and / or controls for your garbage disposal.
Basic Configuration: Should your sink be mounted under the counter (under-mount), on top of the counter (self rimming) or apron (farmer) style? Under mount offers the advantage of clean lines and ease of clean up. Self rimming offers the biggest sink for the space. Apron sinks offer an interesting design statement.
Cabinet Size: Your cabinet size will determine the dimensions of your sink. Allow enough room to clear your cabinet dimensions. Under-mount sinks must be sized to fit within the cabinet dimensions. As an example you would typically fit a 33" wide sink in a 36" wide cabinet, allowing clearance for the cabinet thickness and the installation clips.
